With deep respect, we remember Eva Schloss, who passed away on January 3 at the age of 96. She was a survivor of Auschwitz and a lifelong advocate for remembrance and education.

Born Eva Geiringer in Vienna in 1929, she was still a child when her family was forced to flee rising persecution and relocate to Amsterdam, where she lived in the same city as Anne Frank. After going into hiding, her family was eventually betrayed and deported. On her fifteenth birthday, Eva arrived at Auschwitz, where she endured unimaginable hardship. She survived, but her father and brother were killed shortly before the camp was liberated.

After the war, Eva rebuilt her life with resilience and purpose. She later became widely known for sharing her testimony, determined to ensure that future generations would understand the consequences of hatred and discrimination. Through her books, public speaking, and work in Holocaust education, she turned personal tragedy into a message of responsibility, compassion, and awareness.

Eva Schloss believed that remembering is not optional, it is essential. Her voice helped keep history alive, not to dwell in sorrow, but to protect the future.

May we honor her memory by carrying forward the lessons she devoted her life to teaching.
